Get ready to rethink your perception of river cruises, because Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS), a part of the Viken studio, is revolutionizing the industry with their latest creation. Say goodbye to the typical, boxy river cruise ships and hello to a luxurious, superyacht-inspired experience.
A New Era of River Cruising
The 443-foot Connect is a game-changer, offering a fresh take on river cruising with its sleek design and high-end amenities. It's a far cry from the traditional, utilitarian riverboats, and TDoS has successfully elevated the experience to new heights.
One of the most striking features is the reverse bow, a design element typically found on modern superyachts. This bold choice not only adds a touch of elegance but also improves the ship's aerodynamics, allowing for a smoother journey along Europe's rivers.
Inside the Superyacht-Inspired Haven
Step inside, and you'll be greeted by a material palette that feels more like a five-star hotel or a private yacht than a cruise ship. Natural timbers, textured stones, and warm metals create a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. The large windows bring the river views indoors, blurring the lines between the onboard experience and the surrounding environment.
Viken Group CEO Anna Silvesjö sums it up perfectly: "Our goal was to create a welcoming and spacious environment that connects guests to their surroundings. We wanted to replicate the feel of a contemporary boutique hotel or private yacht, with the added bonus of traveling along Europe's rivers."
A Social Hub with a Twist
Connect is designed with private charters and high-end group travel in mind, offering 60 spacious staterooms that can be combined to create 30 larger suites. With a crew-to-guest ratio of 54 to 120, passengers can expect exceptional service and attention to detail.
The heart of the ship, "The Forum," is a two-story amphitheater-style space that serves as a versatile venue for performances, celebrations, and presentations. But that's not all; Connect also boasts multiple lounges, a barista bar, a library, a chef's table, and even a wine vault. For those seeking relaxation, there's a spa, fitness studio, yoga space, and a sauna. And let's not forget the top deck, complete with a grill and outdoor cinema, offering the perfect setting for al fresco dining and movie nights under the stars.
Technology Meets Relaxation
The residential-style interiors create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, while integrated technology adapts each space to suit various events and charter programs. Connect is also powered by low-emission EU Stage V engines, reaching speeds of up to 14 knots, and features an electric thruster system for short, emissions-free journeys.
A Luxury Experience, Soon to Launch
Currently in its final outfitting stages at Den Breejen Shipyard in the Netherlands, Connect is set to launch later this year. Get ready to embark on a river cruise like no other, where luxury meets the great outdoors.
In my opinion, this new river cruise ship is a testament to the power of design and innovation. It challenges the status quo and offers a unique, superyacht-inspired experience that will undoubtedly elevate the river cruising industry. Personally, I can't wait to see the impact this ship will have on the market and the experiences it will create for its passengers.
